Transit Part 1: Same-Day Space-Available Program

The same dynamic flexibility that allows passengers to change their destination in-route, and allows drivers to pick up all passengers within their assigned local service area also allows us to pick up passengers who were not placed into the routing schedules from at least the day before.

All that is required is for central dispatch to check and make sure that there is enough space, both in terms of room for the passenger on the bus and in terms of time needed to safely load and unload the passenger and keep that specific bus on schedule.  This is an important consideration out of respect for those who have scheduled their rides ahead of time.  It is possible that there is enough seating space on the bus, but the extra time needed to load and unload the passenger would cause the bus to be delayed.

When passengers who have pre-scheduled their rides will be delayed in a manner that would cause them to start being late, then the passenger making a “same-day” space available request must be politely told that either a different bus or a different time will be needed.

People who are trying to get to work, to school, or to a pre-scheduled appointment on time, and who have called in ahead as part of an effort to make it possible for us to help them be on time should not be made to be late simply because someone else has made a last minute decision to go out for breakfast.  Rideshare requires passengers respecting the needs of other passengers.

Thank you for taking time to read my program.  Obviously, if I didn't believe in my own program, I would not have published it for others to read and ponder on.
