Transit Part 7: Numbers and Operating Guidelines

Worthwhile programs are based on worthwhile goals.  I believe that often, the originators of such programs care more about improving the lives of those who will benefit from the new program than they do from any form of actual measurable results.  Yet, results to be recognizable must end up also being measurable.

Transit Part 7: Transfer Bus

My program is based on the idea that transfer buses will travel from Hub to Hub in a type of circle or looping circuit.  Multiple Transfer buses would be used as needed to meet demand and keep passengers time on the bus to a minimum.

Transit Part 7: Special Event Bus

Special Event bus routes are planned for special events.  For many events, special instructions are involved with respect to getting into and out of the special event.

Transit Part 7: Extended Local Area Bus

Bus routing, except that we are talking about a larger geographic area being covered by the driver.  Therefore more care needs to be taken to insure that drivers aren’t being made to drive through the same area twice when once can take care of the same passengers.

Transit Part 7: Local Area Bus

Local Area bus routing involves having a bus leave from and return to the same hub.  This requires that the bus end up driving in some kind of loop or circle away from and back to same hub.

Transit Part 7: Guidelines for Bus Routing

The main consideration of bus routing guidelines needs to be with Local Area and Extended Local Area Bus routes.  This is because, with the exception of Special Event buses, these two routes are doing all of the “door-to-door” part of the work in my program.  With all routes, the goal is to pick up and drop off as many passengers as is safely possible with the least amount of travel miles and travel time.
