Transit Part 7: Transfer Bus

My program is based on the idea that transfer buses will travel from Hub to Hub in a type of circle or looping circuit.  Multiple Transfer buses would be used as needed to meet demand and keep passengers time on the bus to a minimum.

Let’s picture a situation where a metro area has all of its hubs located so that transfer buses can simply drive in a nice big circle and get to each one in order.  Reality will most likely not work this way, but it works for making my point.  Under this type of situation, using two transfer buses, one would drive in a clockwise direction while the second transfer bus would drive in a counter clockwise direction.

This would allow passengers who must use a transfer bus to get from the Hub local to where they were picked up to the hub that services the address they want to go to using the least number of miles and the shortest amount of time.  When an idea circle is not possible, then some form of a figure-8 or other loop should be used with transfer  buses going in opposite directions for the same reason given in the circle example above.

Ideally, when traffic is moving freely as opposed to being jammed up and moving slowly, transfer buses will move using freeways and major arterial roads that have the faster speed limits posted.  Transfer buses will not pick up or drop off except at Hub locations.  Transfer bus drivers should also know what routes they can take when their main routes are clogged with some type of traffic jam.

Scheduling of transfer bus stops at each Hub should allow for the heavier traffic times.  During the lighter times, the bus will have a few minutes extra at each hub.
Thank you for taking time to read my program.  Obviously, if I didn't believe in my own program, I would not have published it for others to read and ponder on.
