Abortion and Politics: Tying it Together

Now, let me tie this back into the subject of this opinion article, namely, Abortion and Politics.


For some, such as myself, our position on abortion is defined by whatever religious organization we have chosen to associate ourselves with.  For others, some religious, some atheists, and some undecided, their position on abortion, while sincere, is either neutral or against the position of people such as myself.

This sets the stage for understanding why this is such a political hot-button of an issue.  At least some of those with strongly held beliefs on either side of this issue have, for many years, been engaged in a political war attempting to get government to pass and enforce laws that would have the effect of forcing their "sincerely held religious like belief" on those who share an opposing view.

If the First Amendment is to be honored and obeyed, assuming you decide to share my opinion that the subject of abortion is a question of one's religious beliefs, then government cannot ever reach a point where the abortion question gets decided once and for all.

But is that really where we need to be stuck at, speaking of our society as a whole?
