Can Sex Offenders Get Sober: Introduction

The title to this opinion article suggests what I feel is an important question.  Can sex offenders, both those who are registered and those who should be, ever really get sober?

I pose that question in that way because I want to suggest something.  I want to suggest a line of thinking.
What If...

What if, some years into the future, science was to prove that sex offenders, as well as others who live life as if they are addicted to the need to have sex, have a similar condition to those who are currently getting or need to get treatment for some type of chemical dependency.
The focus and suggestion of this article assumes that this “future scientific discovery” is already true.  And if the theory I’m putting forth was to prove true, what does that suggest?

Thank you for taking time to read and ponder my opinion on this topic.
