For drug addiction, to get clean and sober with your best chance of staying clean and sober, it is recommended that you take steps to get away from any and all sources where you can be tempted to yield to your addiction to use your “drug of choice.”
This often includes changing friends, no longer going to bars and clubs, and other significant life-style changes. In short, a conscious effort must be made to avoid any and all sources where there the addict would be tempted to “fall off the wagon” and go back to using his or her “drug of choice”.
Sobriety for Sex Offenders:
Well, I’m assuming here in this opinion article that the process of getting and staying sexually sober is the same as for getting and staying sober from drugs and alcohol. And with this thought in mind, I see a potentially serious problem.
What is the problem I see?
I see the problem as being that it seems nearly impossible for those I’m describing as sex addicts and offenders are “out of control” sex addicts. I’m seeing a real problem in terms of their being able to find some place in our society to get away from seeing, hearing, or otherwise being exposed to sources of “sexual influence.”
With so much of how society as a whole dresses to be sexy, seeks to look, walk and act sexy, and with so many movies and other shows including more and more images of people engaged in powerful and passionate sexual situations, how could we, as a society, expect those who, according to my suggested future scientific discovery, how could we as a society ever expect these “out of control sex addicts” to ever get clean and sober, when so much of our society seems to be obsessed with shoving the subject of sex in their faces and in everyone else’s face?
Thank you for taking time to read and ponder my opinion on this topic.
