Changing from Hidden to Transparent Taxes: Introduction

In this seventh part, I share my thoughts and reasons for how to get started making the change from Hidden Taxes to Transparent Taxes.

I also share an idea on how to motivate businesses to adjust their prices lower so as to pass on to consumers the savings that will be experienced from ending Hidden Taxes.

Topics Discussed in this series:

1. Start with hidden taxes that are easiest for consumers to see.
-Ending Property Taxes would create visible changes.
2. Use past Hidden Taxes to estimate Transparent Tax rates.
-Research Hidden Taxes back at least 20 years.
-Research Consumer Purchases for the same time period.
-Estimate Transparent Tax rate needed to keep government revenues the same.
 -Build in a Safety Margin.
3.Develop a plan for how to change from a hidden to a transparent taxing system.
-Plan what Hidden Taxes to end and when.
-Include Windfall Profits tax to encourage consumer friendly price adjustments.
-Legislators, and other elected law makers need to make the change effective and simple.
-Make sure drafted legislation covers all that is needed.
-Avoid contaminating the legislation with unrelated “other items”.
4. Promote the plan and win the support of the people.
-Develop clear plan for showing benefits of proposed legislation.
 -Show consumer benefits.
 -Show employee benefits.
-Show business benefits (includes export businesses).
-Show how neediest members of society will benefit.
-Show how cost of government will benefit.
-Higher Levels of Government should work with lower levels
5. Implement the plan over time.
-Suggest the first hidden tax ended is property taxes
-Lower rents would be seen by renters.
-Changing P.I.T.I to P.I.I would help home owners and new home sales.
-Make changes over time, giving counties, cities, and voters time to adjust.

Thank you for taking time to read and ponder my opinion on this topic.

Therefore, we must either CHANGE the way we live, or we bind our future to our past as if with CHAINS.
