Transit Part 3: Local Area Bus

A Local Area Bus works out of only one Hub and would normally be routed so as to be ready to leave its assigned Hub at half-hour intervals.  The half-hour time requirement will work very well in my program because of how each bus is routed.  This time requirement also helps to maintain our goal of being on time for our passengers.

To better understand how a hub is serviced by more than one Local Area Bus permit me to draw a word-picture for you.  Let’s compare the area serviced by one hub to a flower.  The center of the flower is the location of the Hub facility.  The flower pedals that surround the center of the flower will represent the smaller areas that each local area bus will travel within while out on their short half-hour runs.

Each Local Area bus will pick up and drop off all passengers who are traveling into or being picked up from their portion of the local area (a single flower pedal).  When a Local Area Bus picks up a passenger who is going to another address within their service area (on the same flower pedal) the passenger stays on that bus.

Passengers only get off the bus they are on under one of two conditions.  Either they have arrived at their destination or they have arrived at a Hub and the bus they have been riding on has gotten them as close to their final destination as its routing assignments will allow.  If the latter condition is the case, the passenger would transfer to another bus at the Hub.

The routing concepts of my program will never have a passenger loading and unloading at more than two Hubs no matter where they want to go within the service area.  This is accomplished using what my program calls a Transfer Bus.

Thank you for taking time to read my program.  Obviously, if I didn't believe in my own program, I would not have published it for others to read and ponder on.
