Transit Part 9: Potential Customer Objections

Potential objections some customers may raise and possible responses are:

The buses will be more crowded.

It’s true that by transporting more people the buses will be more crowded than para-transit passengers are use to.  With population predictions of the future, there will be more people needing to be transported.  Transfers on and off the bus at each Hub will also break up the amount of time passengers are on a bus that seems crowded

I’m not going to go direct from home to work as often.

Under the old program, going direct from home to work meant that para-transit passengers weren’t going to have to ride the bus for very long.  Under this new program, the amount of time they spend riding the bus will be more steady and reliable.

Transferring at hubs means extra walking, and walking is not comfortable for me.

The Hub is designed so that you will be walking on a nearly flat surface while transferring from bus to bus.  You will only experience as much discomfort as you normally would walking along the street or in a business you are shopping at.  We also have the potential to provide courtesy ride options for our passengers who cannot walk very far at all.

I’m not sure I’m going to like sitting at a Hub waiting for another bus to come.  Why can’t you just take me straight there with one bus like you’ve always done?

The old system was very good for a few, and ok for several others.   But there were many people who also had bad experiences.  Those who regularly ride the fixed route buses quickly become use to the idea that the buses have a regular and reliable schedule.

I don’t want to have to pay a new bus fare each time I’m transferred to a new bus.

You won’t pay a new bus fare when you transfer.  Under the old system you paid one bus fare to go from one place to another, such as from home to work.  You will still only pay one bus fare for the same service.

Thank you for taking time to read my program.  Obviously, if I didn't believe in my own program, I would not have published it for others to read and ponder on.
